HEALTH INSURANCE LAWAs the use of health insurance expanded throughout the nation and with the increase of costs associated with health care and insurance have risen, there have been a variety of health insurance law reforms. Typically, these health insurance law reforms are set in place to protect the consumer, as well as those who struggle to meet health care costs. In the past, there were many instances in which people lost their health care coverage when they became very ill, had a great deal of difficulty finding coverage when they had a pre-existing condition, or simply could not find affordable coverage in their area. In response, many states began to make health insurance law reforms that prohibited such practices and took steps to see that people that struggled with insurance costs would have access to affordable health insurance options. In many states, it is illegal for a health insurance provider to refuse coverage for someone who has a pre-existing condition and there are real penalties for companies that cancel health insurance when a consumer is found to have developed a disease that is expensive to treat, such as cancer. Another health insurance law reform that has made a positive difference in the lives of many thousands of people in several states has to do with making insurance available to families with lower incomes. These programs make low cost or even free health insurance available to children. This really pays off in the long run, as these children have greater access to the preventative care that helps to avoid costlier health problems. Making the most of these reforms and opportunities does require a bit of time and effort, however. Familiarize yourself with the health insurance law reforms in your area, so that you can be sure that you are getting the most and best quality care possible for your health insurance dollar. |
