Tinea Versicolar | |
| Tinea versicolar is mild superficial fungal infection of the skin. It only becomes obvious to the sufferer during the tanning months of summer when it shows up as pale areas of the skin which will not tan. It occurs mostly in young people who wear heavy clothing and sweat a lot. The pale areas of the skin appear generally on the back and the upper chest and their size may vary from small, almost pin point to larger areas which can be an embarrassment. It is not a highly contagious disease and the only symptom, if any, may be a mild itching. Treatment first and foremost consists of good skin hygiene. Dry and powder your skin thoroughly after swimming or bathing. It would be wise to consult your doctor, particularly in the case of extensive spreading of the disease. Once the fungus has been identified it can be eradicated with the appropriate topical applications prescribed by your doctor. |
