Skin Cancer Signs

While skin cancer is a dreaded type of cancer, it does affect more people than most other cancers combined. The positive side of skin cancer is that usually there are skin cancer signs that can be detected early on that alert doctors to the possible presence of cancer. When skin cancer signs are identified early on, there is a greater risk for recovery in the long run.

When looking for skin cancer signs it is important that you know where skin cancer generally appears. Usually skin cancer is found on parts of the skin that have had a great deal of exposure to the sunlight. Places that skin cancer is often found includes the head, the ears, the face, and the arms. Be sure to check these places and your entire body thoroughly each month.

You should be sure that you know what you are looking for when you are looking for skin cancer signs. There are 3 specific types of skin cancer and they all look different. One type of skin cancer is squamous cell carcinoma and this type tends to spread fairly easily. The early skin cancer signs of this particular type usually tend to be a red spot that is firm, or a scaly flat spot of skin. Another type of skin cancer is basal cell carcinoma. This type of skin cancer is easily treated but things to look for are white bumps that appear on the face and are smooth or flat places that look like scars that suddenly appear.

The most deadly kind of skin cancer are the melanoma cancers. Usually the early skin cancer signs of this specific type of skin cancer includes moles that start to change, the appearance of dark spots on the skin, or bumps that are firm and shiny that suddenly appear. It is important that you can recognize these skin cancer signs early on, because doing so may safe your life.
