How to Treat Acne |

Acne is a skin condition that affects many Americans. It can be a very embarrassing affliction, especially for those in their teenage years. Fortunately, there are ways to treat acne that can help make the skin look clearer and much healthier once a certain routine is followed. It is very important for people to realize that touching the face and “picking” at acne can make the situation much worse. The oils from our fingers seep into the skin, making more breakouts happen. In addition, by picking the skin, we are opening up acne sores, causing oil to seep out and into other pores, making it worse in the long run. Another downside to touching the face is that picking acne can cause scarring which can permanent. The best thing to do for acne is ensure that the facial skin remains clean and clog free. Since most acne is caused by a combination of clogged pores and naturally oily skin, keeping the skin surface clean is imperative. Choose a facial cleanser that is 100% oil free and what is called noncomedegenic. This term means that the product will not clog pores. Also, make sure the cleanser is effective but gentle. Using a face wash that is too harsh can also make breakouts worse. Try to remember to wash your face before you go to bed, and in the morning when you shower. Washing the face at least twice a day is a good rule of thumb, much like brushing your teeth. A toner is another good addition to a good acne treatment program. Toners help to keep the surface of the skin drier, and kind of act like a mop that can soak up extra oil. Be sure to find a toner that says it is alcohol free. Alcohol can actually make acne worse, so look for toners that have some kind of acne medication in them instead of alcohol. A treatment cream is especially important when it comes to treating acne. There are several different gels, creams, and lotions on the market today that are used to help spot treat acne. Many of these treatments contain benzoyl peroxide, which is the most common ingredient in acne fighting products. Benzoyl peroxide helps to kill the bacteria that cause acne in the first place. It also helps to clear up the skin by drying up acne, and cleaning up both blackheads and whiteheads. Salicylic acid is another common ingredient used, and this is designed to help clean up acne as well. It's best to try different products and use them one at a time before you decide on the one that will work best for you. Be sure to use the same product as directed until it runs out before trying a different one. Remember, healing acne takes time, so be patient and stick with the same routine every day. Eventually, you will see cleaner, clearer skin and will be able to feel more confident knowing that you found the perfect treatment plan for you. |
