Back Acne

Acne can be a very embarrassing thing to have, and many people might not realize that it is not just restricted to the face. Back acne is actually common among both teenagers and adults alike. This acne is not visible to others most of the time, but when one wants to swim at the beach or pool or wear a tank top in the summertime, this affliction can become a real nuisance. In addition, back acne can be irritating to the skin, and very uncomfortable. Just like “regular” acne, back acne is most often caused by dirt and oil getting trapped in the hair follicles. Even our backs have thousands of tiny hairs on them, and when things like sweat or oil get into the pores, they can clog, causing bumps to form. In addition, the accumulation of dead skin cells can build up on the back and also cause acne there. This problem is very annoying but it can be fixed, or at least made less severe with a few different treatments. First, many cosmetics companies now make special body washes that are made for those with oily or acne prone skin. This body wash is designed to help clear up acne in oily areas of the body while still being gentle enough to use as a body wash. With repeated use this process usually helps to clear up problems such as back acne. Back acne is often more severe and much more difficult to treat than facial acne, so sometimes the body wash method is not successful.

For those who are suffering with back acne and cannot seem to get rid of it, there are other methods to try. Alpha Hydroxy lotion is a great way to help to treat acne on the back. It is important to remember that a strong alpha hydroxyl treatment should never be used on the face as it can cause severe redness and irritation. The skin on the back is much more tough, and able to handle stronger medication and treatments. First one should thoroughly wash the back with warm water and a very mild cleanser such as a bar soap. Allow the back to dry thoroughly, then apply the alpha hydroxyl lotion on the back very generously and allow it to dry before putting on any clothing. An additional layer of benzoyl peroxide can really help as well. Be very careful when you apply benzoyl peroxide, however, as it can bleach clothing, linens, and towels. This regimen should be repeated in the morning and in the evening to get the best results. Usually the back acne will begin to clear in about a week or two, depending on the severity. When breakouts occur, simply repeat the treatment until they clear up. Embarrassing back acne can be treated, but it takes patience and time before you will see results. With a little bit of patience and know how, you can cure your back acne and get ready to wear that tank top this summer!
