Natural signs of ageing in the face include various degrees of wrinkling. Sagging of the skin can occur along the jaw line, the neck and the cheek. The signs of aging, if extreme, can be corrected by plastic surgery. In the hands of an experienced plastic surgeon (and you should consult your doctor for advice in the selection of a suitable qualified plastic surgeon) hidden incisions can be made around the ears and in the hair line. The skin is dissected free, the excess skin is then trimmed away and fat can also be removed. Sometimes the muscle line can be altered in the neck. The operation can be done under general or local anesthetic. Hospitalisation is generally needed and the operation can last for 2 to 4 hours. Extensive light pressure dressings may be needed during the healing period. Complications can include extensive bruising, skin sloth, injuries to facial nerves, scars and asymmetry. Unfortunately signs of ageing invariably return, sometimes within a year or two. |
