Work

Work is an essential part of daily living and without the benefits of work or something else to help occupy the day, problems will arise. This is seen in the young who, when out of work, are bored, restless and end up in trouble. It is seen in the middle aged executive, suddenly out of a job with no prospects, and it is finally seen in the retired person who is suddenly deprived of the dignity of work.

Whether you are satisfied with your own particular work situation or not, you should realise that all work has its compensations, even in the darkest moments when we feel the disappointments which are common to all jobs. In every work situation there is room for improvement and there is always the possibility of using your job as a spring board to a better and more satisfying career.

You should make every effort to improve on your work situation. you should never lose your ambition to succeed. Without realising it there is always a steady job progression going on in every facet of the work force. People are retiring, changing jobs and opportunities are there being taken advantage of. If it is not so, then a change of job would be indicated in an effort to obtain better job prospects.

In any 24 hour period, your waking hours consist of approximately 16 hours of which work will make up 8 hours. It is important to utilise the other half of your waking time so as to lessen the effects of the pressures and tensions of work.

Exercise is important and you should participate in a regular aerobic exercise programme each week. Three lots of 30 to 60 minutes of healthy exercise in keeping with your age and physical disabilities either after, during or before your working day. Many people now participate in exercise activities, such as jogging, touch football or netball during their lunch break at work.

Shift work can be a problem. Make sure you obtain your regular sleep and then, before starting the shift, make an effort to engage in regular aerobic exercise.

Leisure is important and leisure should not be abused but utilised. It is important that leisure and exercise should be incorporated into your life in order that you may be able to cope with work as well as domestic life and the rearing of your children.

Regular holidays should always be a time for recharging batteries in order to renew enthusiasm. holidays should not be abused but should be seen as time for healthy exercise, leisure and satisfying social activity.
