| Most people experience an increased desire for sexual activity at puberty because the sex hormones increase in quantity and stimulate sexual drive at this time. Most Australians over the age of 20 engage in sexual intercourse, and find this to be a healthy and normal activity. Sexual activity is an accepted convention in today’s society. However, different people enjoy different forms of sex, in different circumstances. Sex is a very personal form of expression and should not be seen as a trade-off for love, or as something dirty. Because sexuality today is more open and honest it can also be more fulfilling. Sexual activity is beneficial as long as no psycological damge results, and the risks of multiple partners are understood. Measures to prevent contracting sexually transmitted diseases such as venereal diseases and AIDS, and pregnancy are easily taken with use of a condom. Modern contraception has altered the relationship between the sexes to bring about a more balanced relationship, free of the anxiety of an unwanted pregnancy. Sexual responsibility should be taken by anyone participating in sexual activity; whether this responsibilty be emotional or social. A known AIDS carrier has a great responsibility to notify theor partner of their condition, and must take precautions in order not o spread the disease if they choose to participate in sexual activity. Full sexual pleasure is reached when the pleasure is mutually shared. Women have no less enthusiasm for sex and have the same drive as men. The needs of both partners have to be considered with sexual activity. Mutual agreement has to be reached if the relationship is to be a success. Sex should never be a duty and should be an enjoyable activity to both partners. Otherwise, tension and resentment may occur which could affect other facets of an otherwise solid relationship. It is therefore important to teach the children the facts of life honestly and from and early age. Children should be taught that sex is a natural and loving act and should not be something to feel shameful about.
