Rape | |
| Rape refers to a forceful sexual assault on a person against their will. In the majority of cases it is the woman who is the victim and often it is by a known acquaintance or by the male partner in a de facto or even married relationship. In order to prevent rape by a complete stranger you should ensure that at all times you are secure in your home environment. In public and at work you should make sure you are in trustworthy company or in calling distance of assistance should a crisis arise. This is not always possible but the possibility of a rape situation developing should always be kept in mind. It is wise to avoid the companionship of those whom you cannot trust and a situation associated with alcohol or drugs which can lead to a sudden change in the character of the male and a loss of control. The basis of a male strength and his attraction has since time began been aggression. In modern society we have all learnt to live with control of our sexual desires and frustration’s. However the sexual drive is strong and can be the basis of manic behaviour in what appears to be a civilised relationship. This doesn’t excuse such behaviour. Avoiding the possibility of rape is the best protection against it happening. If rape has occurred you will be in need of experienced and sympathetic medical and legal help and you should immediately seek out such help. Do not wash or change your clothes before seeing the doctor as medicolegal evidence may be present. Preventable medical treatment will possibly be necessary. Most public hospitals in Australia have rape and sexual assault centres the phone numbers of which can be found in the Community Help and Welfare section in the front pages of your telephone directory. |
