Contact lenses are a wonderful product for people who need vision correction but don't want to deal with wearing glasses every day. Many people have soft contact lenses instead, and they cam be a true asset to your vision correction regimen. The downside to this choice is that soft contact lenses must be cleaned thoroughly, so there are some things that these wearers should know. Generally there are three steps to cleaning your soft contact lenses: clean, rinse, and disinfect. The first thing you should always do before cleaning your lenses is wash and dry your hands thoroughly, making sure they are clear from any germs, dirt, or food particles. It is very important to remember that soft contact lenses are very fragile and sensitive, so always handle them with care. In addition, always be sure to clean them one lens at a time. Once you've thoroughly washed your hands, you can clean the first lens using the recommended solution. Certain types of soft contact lenses need certain types of cleaning solutions, so be sure you've chosen the one that is best for your particular lens type. Your eye doctor can help recommend the best cleaning solution for you. The solution will help to remove and gently dissolve all dirt and debris that may have accumulated on it. You can either rinse it with the solution directly, or squeeze some into your hand and clean the lens that way. Just remember to be gentle when applying any kind of cleaning solution to your soft contact lenses. After you've applied the cleaning solution, thoroughly rinse your lens. Then insert the lens into the lens case provided. Be sure that the case itself is very clean, as debris from the case can also get onto the contact lens. You will now want to fill the case with the proper disinfecting solution. Just like your cleaning solution, this liquid is meant to help kill any germs or debris left on the contact lens. You will do this for the other lens, and now your soft contact lenses are ready to be worn again. Be sure you know which solutions will work best because you do not want to experience any irritation of the eyes after usage. Read the bottles carefully, and find out which brands and types are recommended for the type or brand of contact lenses that you have. In addition to the usual cleaning materials, you may also want to look into other things such as lens eye drops. These drops will help to lubricate your contacts and help keep sensitivity to a minimum. Very few people experience any kind of allergic reaction to the cleaning solutions, but if you do, please notify your doctor immediately, so they may try to find alternatives for you. Cleaning your soft contact lenses is something that should be made into a habit, so you have a routine in place. Once you're familiar with the process, keeping them nice and clean and free from any debris or dirt will ensure they last a long time, and that you get the best use out of them. |
